Q

What is a Buffer Zone?

A

A defined zone in the vicinity of potential slope failures. This area can become an exclusion zone once certain monitoring trigger levels are reached as per relevant TARP.

Q

What is a Catch Bund?

A

A rill of material installed at a prescribed distance and height determined by level of risk based on geotechnical assessment to prevent vehicles / equipment / people entering the area.

Q

What is a Drop Zone?

A

The restricted area below an active work site where disturbed material may be expected to land when dislodged. A drop zone can also be determined as the area at the base of a mining wall / slope where there is a risk of rock fall onto persons or machinery.

Although primarily aimed at isolated rock fall and ravelling, the drop zone may provide protection for smaller toppling, planar, wedge and circular slope failures.

Q

What is an Exclusion Zone?

A

A defined zone in the vicinity of potential slope failures (above and below) where no equipment or personnel must enter. The size of this zone will be determined through a technical assessment of the risk posed by the potential slope failure.

Q

What is a Standoff Zone?

A

A defined zone in the vicinity of potential slope failures where no personnel must enter. Equipment may reach in and mine material inside a standoff zone providing the cab remains outside the standoff zone. The size of this zone will be determined through a technical assessment of the risk posed by the potential slope failure.

For clarity, equipment / vehicles may pass through a standoff zone - e.g., trucks driving below a low wall, highwall, single lane situation.
