Relative atomic mass
The average mass of an atom of an element, relative to 1/12th the mass of a carbon-12 isotope
First ionisation energy
The energy required to remove one mole of electrons from one mole of gaseous atoms to form 1 mole of gaseous 1+ ions
Enthalpy of formation
The enthalpy change when 1 mole of a substance is produced from their constituent elements under standard states and standard conditions
Enthalpy of combustion
The enthalpy change when 1 mole of a substance is combusted completely in oxygen under conditions
(DON’T STAY IN STANDARD STATES)
Mean bond enthalpy
The average energy required to break one mole of a specific type of bond in gaseous molecules
Hess’s law
The total enthalpy change for a reaction is the same, independant of the route taken, provided the initial and final conditions are the same
