we are becoming more connected across the globe, it is relative, compression of time and distance, increasing inter-dependence, increasing global culture, economics, politics, communication, environment, ecology

the emergence of global economic and cultural system which is incorporating the people of the world into a single society
cohen and kennedy definition of globalisation
a series of transformations of the world, including changes in concept of time and space, interdependent economies, increasing cultural interaction and increasingly shared problems
giddens definition of globalisation
the intensification of worldwide social relations which distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring many miles away and vice versa
digital revolution
data and information can now be stored and accessed all around the globe through internationally recognised programming systems eg : apple, there are new platforms eg : social media and changes to old ones to modernise them eg : catch up tv
media convergence
boyle : information can be combined and delivered into one format eg : iphone, social platforms can communicate with one another, convergence of cultural ideas across the world but because digital forms of communication have developed more rapidly in west western capitalist ideas are more dominant
big data
large amounts of data can be stored online, this can be analysed to reveal patterns and trends relating to human behaviour, big storage space, large number of people discussing it and the opportunities for studying human behaviour eg : wikipedia
global village
digital communication has allowed us to stay in contact with friends and family and others using social media and the internet, it is easier than ever now
