Replacement calculation

A

Maintenance + deficit - bolus

e.g. 25kg child 5% dehydrated

Maintenance = 1600ml (1000 + 500 + 100)
Deficit = 25 kg x 5% = 1250
Replacement = 2850/24 = 118ml/hr

Fluid types used in maintenance, replacement, and resuscitation

A

Maintenance = 0.9 NaCl, 5% glucose, +/- KCl (20mMol)

Replacement = 0.9 NaCl, 5% glucose, +/- KCL (20mMol)

Resusc = 0.9 NaCl
