What kind of patients should LPNs be delegated?
They should be assigned stable patients with predictable outcomes
What is the role of the LPN
They can participate in planning interventions and
incorporate the prescribed medical regimen
Participate in health teaching
Collaborate cooperate and communicate with other health care providers
LPN may not:
Administer central line meds, IV push meds, blood products, IM,IV Antineoplastics, oxytoxics, antiarryrhmias, investigational (research), epidural, IV meds that alter BP, IV insulin, Rh immune globulin
Rns should supervise 1st dose of any peripheral IV medication

What is delegation in nursing?
Transferring to a competent individual the authority and responsibility to perform a SELECTED TASK in a SELECTED SITUATION
What does priority one care consist of?
ABC
ie. pulm edema or hemorrhage
what does a priority two pt consist of?
sudden change in LOC
Level 3 Patient?
New onset of VS changes
Level 4 Patient ?
Unstable metabolic disorders
ie. severe hypo/hyperglycemia (unless MS changes occur as well then it moves to level 2
Level 5 Patient
complaints of pain especially post-op (except chest pain which would move to a higher level
Level 6 Patient
performance of complex tx or techniques (tubes/dressings)
Level 7 Patient
Family and s/o meetings and discharge meetings
