A
  • confusion
  • restlessness
  • being upset
  • not making sense
  • seeing/hearing things
  • mixing up days and nights
  • drifting between sleep and awake
  • trouble concentrating
  • forgetting
  • disorientation
  • sleepy
  • more alert than usual

Causes for Delirium?

A
  • infections
  • pain
  • poisons (toxic drugs)
  • brain injuries
  • medication (side effects)
  • surgery (hospital stay, move)
  • poor fitting (hearing aids, glasses, sences)
  • traumatic shock
  • severe lack of food, water and sleep
  • withdrawl from drug dependance
  • love vitamin B12

What is Delirium?

A

A set of symptoms called a syndrome. May be caused by:
-severe physical illness or any process interfering with normal brain function. It can mimic mental illnesses but usually has a short duration.

Treatment for Delirium:

A
  • notice signs and symptoms
  • know medical history
  • physical exams
  • know their usual routine, thinking ability ect..
  • treat underlying cause
  • figure out cause ASAP
  • it usually clears after days-weeks
