Describe stage 1 of AD
increased difficulty with IADLs, decline in work/leisure, mild deficits in memory, attention
describe stage 2 in AD
mood changes, difficulty learning new tasks, mod memory loss, mild ADL dysfunction
describe stage 3 of AD
behavior changes, disoriented, no IADLs, disoriented, increased memory loss
describe stage 4 of AD
severe memory and confusion, unable to eat, reduced gain/balance
Common assessments we should use for AD
EFPT, kitchen task assessment, CPT, CAM
What are OT goals for persons with AD
reduce rate of functional decline, maintain or enhance performance, reduce burden of care
How can OT manage behavior?
enviornmental modification, providing various forms of stimulation, engaging in different activities, activities that dont require alot of attention
What are ways OT can address enviornmental intervention?
incorporate familiar items (photos, clothes)
open floor plan
bright light during day
signs/tape
removing clutter
What are some interventions OT can provide for caregivers?
providing resources, coping skills, stress management, support groups. social skill training, behavior management
