Democracy
A system of government in which people or their elected representatives make decisions
Fascism
Led by a dictator who has complete power
Communism
There is a common ownership in terms of production
Monarchy
When the monarch passes laws and a gov. is elected by the people
Military rule/junta
A form of government where the political power resides with the army
Dissident
A person who disapproves/disagrees with the official authorities views on religion, politics etc.
Political Dissident
Disagrees and actively speaks out against the party line e.g. Aung San Suu Kyi
Economic Sanction
Economic punishment/penalties imposed by one or more countries on another country e.g. refusal to trade with them
Political prisoner
A person who is imprisoned for their political belief - which goes against official party line
Freedom of Speech
The ability to be able to speak out about things such as politics, welfare and rights without being punished
Freedom of Religion
Having the freedom to have faith in any religion or none at all
Freedom of Association
Being able to join/support any particular group, for example unions or religions
Freedom of Press
The government does not control the level or content from the press
Independent Judiciary (Separation of Powers)
3 levels of government that have different responsibilities, so that it is fair and even
Free and fair elections (Secret ballot)
The freedom to vote for the party you wish without influence
Compulsory voting
A responsibility to choose who you want to have in parliament

Junta ceded power, junta released political prisoners, relaxed press censorship/tourists, collaborating with suu kyi, allowing support for suu kyi, injecting for money into infrastructure etc.
How does democracy affect economic activity
democracy attracts tourists, foreign investment, alliances etc. benefiting local economies
How does democracy affect human rights
people are able to express their opinions, vote etc. without the fear of punishment
