What is democracy?
Democracy is the form of government and the way we run our country in Ireland
What is direct democracy
Citizens had a direct say in how the state was run
What is representative democracy (what we live in now)
The citizens of the democracy hold elections to choose their representatives, these representatives run things on our behalf

Right to freedom
Right to vote
Right to be treated equally
What is majority and minority rule
The decisions are made on the basis of the majority rules but the rights and freedom of the minority’s have to be respected
What is authoritarian rule
Under this rule citizens don’t have the freedom or rights we would.

A special vote where they vote yes or no to a proposed change
