Who were the two army generals/officers involved in the silent dictatorship
Ludenedorff and Hindenburg
What did Hindenburg and Ludendorff establish during the silent dictatorship ?
1.The Auxillary Service Act (December 1916) which enabled the governement to control the labour of all males betwween 17 and 60. (conscription )
2.Kreuznach programme- A plan for a massive expansion of German territorial and economic power if Germany had won the First world war
What was the peace resolution ? who proposed it ?
Main call for an end to war was led by a member of the centre party, Matthais Erzberger. He conducted research into Germanys war tactics and concluded subramine warfare was a complete failure. He made speeches to the main commision of the Reichstag. He called for a ‘peace Resolution’ a peace without victory.
What was the result of the Erzberger peace resolution ?
Erzbergers victory in the Reichstag did not have the effect he desired, Ludendorff and Hindenburg opposed the peace resolution, saw it as an oppurtunity to push for the removal of Bethmann. Erzberger had failed, the removal of Bethmann, which he supported, strengthened the military dictatorship and meant war continued.
why was there a split in the SPD (1915)
There were disagreements about the continuation of war. In the war credit vote of December 1915, 20 members of the party rejected the party line and voted against the continuation of war credit. Majority of SPD felt opposition to the war was an act of treason , Haase resigned and was replaced by Friedrich Ebert. Led to the creation of the USPD led by Haase
What was the treaty of Brest-Litovsk
3 march 1918. new bolshevik governement of Russia peace treaty with Germany. Throuugh the treaty Russia lost its polish territories. Russia also had to pay 3 billion roubles in reperations
Describe the ‘black day of the German army’
British army took 16,000 German soldiers prisoners and British troops overran German positionss on the Western front, Germany were also about to be outnumbered as 1 million US soldiers were on their way to aid the british.
