What does the changes in position of women mean?
Increased educational opportunities, more women in paid work, changes in attitudes towards family life, and the women’s roles, wider access to abortion or contraceptive.

There has been improved housing, sanitation, nutrition and knowledge of hygiene/ child health.
This means that less infants face death.
What does children being an economic liability mean?
Children are remaining economically liable and dependent for longer due to laws banning child labour coupled with the intro of compulsory schooling.

Childhood is socially constructed and a uniquely important period of life, parents focus on quality not quantity, therefore, fewer children but lavish more attention and resources on them.
