Q

Solid structure

A

-strong forces of attraction hold the particles close together in a fixed, regular arrangement
-the particles don’t have much energy so vibrate on their fixed spot
-density it highest in this state

-they have more … than particles in a …
-they move in … directions at low …
-… dense than …

A

-weaker forces of attraction between particles
-particles can move past eachother and form irregular arrangements
-they have more energy than particles in a solid
-they move in random directions at low speeds

Gases structure

-almost … forces of … between …
-particles have … energy than in … or solids
-they are … to move in … directions at … speeds
-… dense than …

A

-almost no forces of attraction between particles
-particles have more energy than in liquids or solids
-they are free to move in random directions at high speeds

  5. Once fully … measure the … of the water d… in the measuring … to find the v…
  6. Use the formula ρ=… to find the …
A
  1. Equipment list: Eureka can, mass balance, measuring cylinder, solid object, string, ruler
  2. Use a mass balance to find the mass of the object
  3. If it’s irregular, fill a eureka can to the brim and place a measuring cylinder under the pipe out of the can
  4. Tie a piece of string to the object and slowly lower it into the eureka can
  5. Once fully submerged measure the volume of the water displaced in the measuring cylinder to find the volume
  6. Use the formula ρ=m/v to find the density

Q

How to find the density of a liquid practical

A
  1. Equipment list: measuring cylinder, mass balance
  2. Place a measuring cylinder on a balance and zero it
  3. Pour 10ml of the liquid into the measuring cylinder and record the mass
  4. Pour another 10ml into the cylinder and repeat until it is full and record the total volume and mass each time
  5. For each measurement use the formula ρ=m/v
  6. Take an average of your calculated densities to find the density if the liquid
