(37 cards)
Antidepressant onset
Typically can take weeks to see clinical effects
Criteria for diagnosis of MDD
Depressed mood and/or diminished interest or pleasure and at least 4 of the other symptoms of MDD in the same 2 week period
Most important outcome of depression treatment
Prevention of suicide attempts
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
Caused by: dopamine antagonists

Duration of symptoms: days to 2 weeks
Serotonin syndrome (SS)
Caused by: serotonin agonists
Initiation of symptoms: Hours
Duration of symptoms: usually 24 hours
Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) Indication
Depression
TCA MOA
Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors
TCA adverse effects
Anticholinergic effects: dry mouth, constipation, confusion, urinary retention, dry eye
Orthostatic hypotenstion, drowsiness/dizziness
Arrhythmia
Withdrawal can have cholinergic rebound
Serotonin syndrome
Sexual dysfunction
Triazolopyridine Indication
MDD, sleep aid
Triazolopyridine MOA
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, blocks alpha-1 and histamine receptors
Triazolopyridine Adverse Effects

Bipolar I
One or more manic or mixed episodes
Equally common in men and women
Bipolar II
Depressive episodes with hypomanic episodes
More common in women
Mania
Elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting at least 1 week and causes impairment in functioning
Hypomania
Elevated, expansive, or irritable mood that lasts at least 4 days but does not cause marked impairment in functioning
