Derailleurs Flashcards
(13 cards)
What does a derailleur do?
Changes gears; moves the chain from one sprocket to the other.
The small rear sprocket is the _____ gear.
The larger rear sprocket is the _____ gear.
Small sprocket = high gear
Large sprocket = low gear
How do you correctly adjust your derailleurs high speed limit screw?
- line your derailleur guide pulley with your high gear sprocket
- adjust high speed limit screw accordingly, so the guide pulley and high gear sprocket align.
Which way does the high speed limit screw need to be turned to move right?
Counter clock wise rotation.
How do you adjust your rear derailleur low speed limit screw?
- line your guide pulley with the low gear sprocket
- adjust low speed limit screw accordingly so the two align.
Which way does the low speed limit screw need to be turned to move right?
Clock wise rotation
What does the high gear limit screw prevent your chain from doing?
It prevents your chain from pushing past the high-gear sprocket (to the right).
What does the low gear limit screw prevent your chain from doing?
It prevents your chain from pushing pas the low gear sprocket (to the left).
When adjusting the front derailleur, how much clearance should the outer cage be set to from the larger chain ring?
2mm clearance (Aprox 1 - 3mm)
What needs to be done when adjusting your DERAILLEUR barrel adjuster?
Screw it in all the way clockwise, then back out 3 turns.
What needs to be done when adjusting your SHIFTER barrel adjuster?
Screw it in all the way, then back out 1 turn.
How do you adjust your front derailleur low speed limit screw?
- have the chain on the largest sprocket (low gear), and the smallest chain ring.
- adjust to a 1mm gap between the inner cage plate and chain.
How do you adjust your front derailleur high speed limit screw?
- have the chain on the smallest sprocket (high gear), and the largest chain ring.
- adjust to a 1mm gap between the outer cage plate and chain.
