what is his philosophy?
he wonders when he is awake if he is actually dreaming
what study did he come up with?
he proposes a method stemming from mathematics called the Cartesian Method

accept ideas as true or justified only if they are self-evident- if it is clear and distinct in one’s mind
excludes all grounds of doubt

analyze by dividing complex ideas into simpler ones
