Describe the three stages of tissues healing Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
1st Stage of tissue healing (including time lines)
A
INFLAMMATION PHASE ( Days 1-0):
- Inflammatory response
- Remove foreign debris + reduce chance of infection to max tissue healing.
- Clinical Implications:
- Cardinal signs + symptoms
- Min loss of function by address pain + swelling.
- Tx:
- RICE
2
Q
2nd Stage of tissue healing
A
REPAIR PHASE (Days 3-20):
- Formation of granulation tissue
- Regeneration of epithelial cells
- Fibres are thin & weak
- Clinical Implications:
- Early scar formations, easily damaged + easy to bleed.
- Tx:
- Balance early ROM with minimizing trauma to fragile area.
3
Q
3rd Stage of tissue healing
A
REMODELING PHASE (Days 9+):
- Restore tissue function as close to normal as possible.
- Production of scar tissue + strength of fibres
- Depending on type of tissue: can last 3 months to 2 years.
- The tensile strength of new collagen is related to the forces applied to the tissue during this phase.
- Clinical Implications:
- Need to know when it is appropriate to mobilize healing tissue.
-Tx: Balance mechanical force application with min further damage.
