Design Flashcards
GCSE (34 cards)
What is iterative design?
A special approach based on a cyclic process of prototyping, testing, analysing, and refining the product.
What is user-centre design?
An iterative design process in which designers focus on the users and their needs in each phase of the design process.
What is systems thinking?
An approach to problem solving which takes into account the overall system as well as its individual parts.
What is design fixation?
Situations where designers limit their creative output because of an overreliance on features of preexisting designs
What is deforestation?
When forests are removed and land is converted to other uses.
What is atmospheric pollution?
When pollutants are released into the Earths atmosphere.
What is Oceanic pollution?
When chemicals and other industrial waste are released into the Oceans.
What is Fair Trade?
A movement that works to help developing countries get a fair deal for the products that they produce.
What is market research?
When information is collected to find out whether there is a place in the market for a proposed product.
What is Primary data?
Raw data takin first hand or from original research.
What is secondary research?
Data that is freely available and taken from other parties or resources.
What are ergonomics?
Understanding how people interact with the products and systems around them.
What is Anthropometrics?
The study of the human body and how it moves.
What is a design brief?
A short description of the design problem and how it is solved.
What is a design specification?
A list of measurable design criteria that the product or system must meet.
What is a manufacturing specification?
The information needed to successfully manufacture the design.
What are prototypes?
Full sized ,actual versions or primary examples of an intended product or system.
What are non renewable energy resources?
Sources that will eventually run out.
How are fossil fuels formed?
They are formed from the remains of dead organisms over a long period of time.
What is wind energy used for.
To generate power/electricity
What is Biomass?
A fuel that is created from organic materials, such as crops, scrap wood and animal waste.
What do batteries do?
They convert chemical energy into electrical energy.
What is Rotating?
Movement in a circle.
What is linear?
motion goes in a straight line.
