Q

What is the mechanism of action of NSAID’S

A

They act as non-selective reversible inhibitors of the enzyme cyclooxygenase.

They reduce levels of chemicals called prostaglandins involved in inflammation by blocking their synthesis from arachidonic acid by COX enzymes.

Q

Chemical Structure and Mechanism of Action of Aspirin

A

Aspirin is one of the salicylates.

It irreversibly inhibits COX-1
This unique behaviour allows aspirin to inhibit platelet aggregation.
