DFS (Distributed File System)

A
  • Access geographically dispersed files throughout an organisation
  • WAN-friendly replication mechanism for data distribution between servers
  • Used in environments where files are dispersed on multiple servers in a single location
  • Hub-and-spoke or Full mesh

  • Namespace domain(WINN02)
  • Name of the namespace (CCSPDEPCISADM)
  • Namespace server
  • Folder targets (Different folder targets from different servers)
  • Delegate rights (if necessary)

DFS-R (Replication)

A
  • Ensure that contents are sync
  • Sync ensures users to see the same files regardless of which folder target is referred to (diff servers)
  • Backup using standard backup procedures
  • Reduce cost (backup hardware and onsite IT experts)
  • Fault tolerant: test from WKS with 1 server out
