What economic factor is unfair?

A

World trade - rich countries want to pay as little as possible for raw materials produced in developing countries (more supply than demand)

Why do poorer countries find themselves competing against each other for businesses because of world trade?

A

Prices have been lowered to attract buyers for the commodities such as tea, bananas and sugar. The result is that poor farmers do not receive enough to support their families

Why is clean water an important social affect?

A
  • It ensures a good health
  • Enables people to work effectively to earn a living
  • Good crop production

What are the problems with a short supply of water?

A
  • People have to spend time searching for it
  • Wastes valuable energy carrying it
  • Water may be dirty and contaminated causing people to become ill (preventing them from working, which makes it hard to support their families)

A

Villages have a clean and secure water supply

What is the problem with corrupt politicians?

A

They enrich themselves illegally at the expense of their country’s development - which makes money not available for education, health services, roads, clean water and sanitation.

How has Zimbabwe suffered a corrupt government?

A

Highly productive land owned by large scale white farmers were taken by the government officials and the “war veterans” completely destroying the economy and exceeding the inflation

What are the consequences of having a corrupt government?

A

Foreign investors and aid providers are discouraged from putting funds into such a country because they cant rely on the money reaching the target - economies that are already weak can not afford to miss out on this income!
