What is Diabetes Insipidus (DI)?
A
A decrease in ADH causing too much fluid loss - excessive dilute urination, excessive thirst, electrolyte imbalance, and excessive fluid intake

What are patients with DI at risk for?
A
Dehydration
Hyperosmolarity
Hypernatremia
Circulatory collapse
Unconsciousness
CNS damage
Seizures

What are the signs and symptoms of DI?
A
Excessive dilute urine (polyuria)
Polydipsia
Urine with low spec gravity and high osmolality
Electrolyte imbalance
Signs of dehydration such as: tachycardia, hypotension, poor skin turgor, weak peripheral pulse, constipation
