Diabetes Mellitus Flashcards
(10 cards)
Lispro
rapid-acting insulin, meal time insulin
Regular insulin
short acting, meal time
Neutral protamien hagedorn
intermediate acting, controls glucose levels between meals
secretagogues: sulphonylureas (Glyburide)
stimulate beta cells in pancreas to increase insulin production, with breakfast
Secretagogues: Non-sulphonylureas
stimulate beta cells in pancreas to increase insulin production, meal time drugs
Metformin
decreases hepatic production of glucose and increase tissue sensitivity to insulin, 1st line treatment for type 2
rosiglitazone
decrease insulin resistances
DPP-4 inhibitors
blocks DPP-4, reducing incretin metabolism and longer breakdown, increases plasma incretin level and decrease glucose
exenatide
mimics GLP-1 incretin which stimulates insulin and inhibits glucagon to lower blood glucose
canagliflozin
inhibit SGLT2 in proximal tubule and causes glucose to no be reabsorbed in and glucose is lost in the urine
