Densification
An increase in the density of fascia
Alteration of the loose component that affects the sliding system between fascial tissue interfaces
Increased viscosity of the connective tissue within fascia
Can be caused by increased concentration of hyaluronic acid
Doesn’t alter collagen framework of fascia
Predisposed by diet, exercise and overuse
Muscle strain
A muscle strain occurs - muscle fibres tear, due to extensive mechanical stress, usually due to powerful eccentric contractions or over stretching.
Grade 1 mild - limited fibres effected, no decrease in strength or ROM
Grade 2 moderate - half fibres torn, significant Px, swelling and minor decreases in strength
Grade 3 severe - complete rupture, swelling, complete loss of function
Fast twitch muscles are more commonly strained
