Diagnosis and treatment planning Flashcards
(24 cards)
what does stage 00 of a carious lesion mean?
sound surface
no signs of caries
what does stage 02 of a carious lesion mean?
stage at which decay should be detected
white spot lesion
what does stage 04 of a carious lesion mean?
can see shadow on occlusal surface
what does stage 05 of a carious lesion mean?
cavity with visible dentine
extent: less than a half of occlusal surface
what does stage 06 of a carious lesion mean?
cavity extends over half of tooth surface
extensive lesion or pulp involvement
if a patient has high risk of caries how often should radiographs be taken?
every 6 months
if a patient has moderate risk of caries how often should radiographs be taken?
every 12-18 months
if a patient has low risk of caries how often should radiographs be taken?
every two years
what is a D1 lesion?
in outer 1/3 of dentine
what is a D2 lesion?
in middle 1/3 of dentine
what is a D3 lesion?
in inner 1/3 of dentine
what is the level of this lesion?
D3
what is the level of this lesion?
P level - its in the pulp
what is the level of this lesion?
E level lesion - limited to enamel
what is the level of this lesion?
D1 lesion
Caries on the occlusal surface only presents on bitewing if ?
its moderate or advanced
what are the visual and radiographic presentations of initial occlusal carious lesions?
non-cavitated, dentine shadow or minimal enamel cavitation
no radiographic presentation
what are the visual and radiographic presentations of advanced occlusal carious lesions?
dentine shadow or cavitation with visible dentine
radiograph - inner 1/3 dentine
what are the visual and radiographic presentations of initial proximal carious lesions?
white spot lesion or shadow
radiograph - enamel confined
what are the visual and radiographic presentations of advanced proximal carious lesions?
enamel cavitation and dentine shadow or cavity with visible dentine
radiograph: may extend into inner 1/3 dentine
what is an initial carious lesion?
lesion up to enamel dentine junction
what is a moderate carious lesion?
lesion in dentine and may extend into middle 1/3 of dentine
what is an extensive carious lesion?
extends into inner 1/3 of dentine clear band of dentine separating it from pulp
