A

The correct balance of all the food groups throughout your eating habits

What are the components of a healthy diet and what are they used for?

A
  • Carbahydrates - release energy
  • Fats - warmth and to release energy
  • Protein - for growth, cell repair and cell replacement
  • Fibre - keep everything in our digestive system moving smoothly
  • Vitamins - to keep skin, bones, blood and everything healthy
  • Minerals- to keep skin, bones, blood and everything healthy
  • Water - to hydrate our body.

What is your metabolism and metabolic rate?

A

Metabolism - the chemical reactions in your body that keep you alive.
Metabolic rate - the speed at which they occur.

What effects metabolic rate?

A

^ Amount of muscle someone has - more muscle =more energy = higher metabolic rate
^ Size - bigger you are the more energy you need = higher m.r
^ Genders - males m.r is higher than females as they generally have more muscle and are bigger.
^ Exercise boosts metabolic rate.
^ Inherited factors - under-active thyroid gland

Problems caused by an unbalanced diet?

A

Obesity - arthritis, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer.
Eating too little - slow growth, fatigue, poor resistance to disease, irregular periods, deficiency disease (scurvy)

Benefits of exercise

A

People who exercise are generally healthier.
It increases the energy body uses and decreases the amount stored.
Builds muscle and boosts metabolic rate
