How can you use more starchy carbohydrates in your diet
You could eat lots of fruit and vegetables in your diet and some oily fish
And you could try to eat less salty stuff
What are some examples of starchy carbohydrates
Potatoes ( with the skins) , breads , rice ,pasta and cereals are the best examples of starchy carbohydrates
Their are 2 main types of fat, what are they
Saturated fat, which too much of it can increase the amount of cholesterol in the body, it’s found in fatty meat cuts , sausages, butter ,cream and most pies
Unsaturated fat , which is good for you and can help your digestion system , it’s mostly found in vegetable oils and spread , oily fish ( e.g. salmon ) and avocados
What are sugary foods and drinks often high in
They are loaded with energy witch is measured in kilojoules and can often contribute to weight gain, they also cause tooth decay especially when eaten between meals
What is obesity and how can we prevent it
Obesity is a dietary disorder which causes weight gain rapidly and we prevent it by burning the calories we eat
How can we keep our energy balance equal
We can use the eatwell guide to give us some advice
We can reduce the amount of sugary and fatty stuff we intake
We can exercise more to reduce the amount of calories we intake
What substance can block up blood chambers and arteries
Cholesterol blocks up arteries and chambers which can causes a stroke and rarely death if not treated to rapidly
What are coeliacs
People who can’t have wheat or gluten as it reacts violently with their body
What foods can people with coeliac have
Diary products, fruits , non battered or breaded fish and potatoes
What foods can’t coeliac people have
High glucose foods such as bread ,wheat and oats
What happens when a person or individual who has coeliacs disease eats something with glucose in it
Their body cannot tolerate this protein so the villi in the small intestine are not formed properly which results in their body not being able to absorb nutrients properly
What are some symptoms of coeliacs disease
Nausea ( sore head , dizziness)
Tiredness / constipation
Reduced growth in children
What are starchy carbohydrates
Starchy carbohydrates ( sometimes called carbs) are a mineral/ nutrient which helps the body break down foods which makes them easier to absorb the nutrients
What can an unbalanced diet lead to
It can lead to many diseases such as an osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease ( e.g. coronary heart, stroke) , heart disease and bowel cancer to name a few
What are the 2 different risk factors of an unbalanced diet
There’s the modifiable factors which can be changed by your diet (e.g eating less sugary foods or salt high ones) or your lifestyle ( e.g. running more or stop smoking)
The non-modifiable ones are factors which you can’t change such as your genetics (eg. Cancer runs through the family) your age( eg people over 54 are more likely to get strokes) or gender (eg women are more likely to get osteoporosis)
What is osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease where the bone is formed through a different process by breaking down old cells and building new one in their place and it breaks down faster than it can reform

Cardiovascular disease is an umbrella term for illnesses that affect the heart and circulation, it includes coronary heart disease and strokes
