Different Hormones Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What do auxins do
A
- made in the shoot tips, roots and meristem
- stimulates growth of main apical shoots
- cell elongation
- auxin molecule binds to specific receptors in plant cells
-high conc supports growth in apical dominance and inhibits lateral growth - low conc results in root growth
2
Q
What do gibberlins do
A
- produced by fungus from giberella
- also important in plant stem elongation
- seed germination
- affects length of internodes
3
Q
Describe seed germination from gibberelin
A
1) seed absorbs water - embryo is activated and begins to produce gibberelins which stimulate production of enzymes that break down food stores
2) embryo plant uses food stores to produce atp for building material to grow and grow out of seed coat
3) gibberlens switch genes on which code for digestive enzymes required for germination
4) aba works as an antagonist
4
Q
What does Ethene do
A
- causes fruit ripening
- promotes leaf fall
5
Q
What does ABA do ( absicis acid)
A
- stimulates stomata’s closing
- maintains dormancy of seeds
- stimulates cold protective response
