How do you test for sugar ?

A
  • Food should be put into a test-tube
    and covered with Benedict’s solution.
    -The tube should be heated for 5 minutes in a water bath.
    -If there is sugar present, the solution will turn from blue to brick
    red/ orange-red.
    -If there is no sugar, it will stay blue.

A

-Add a few drops of iodine to the food in a spotting tile or test tube.
-If there is starch in the food, the iodine will turn from orange brown to blue-black.
-If there is no starch, the iodine will stay orange.
