Ingestion
This occurs when you take food into your body through your mouth by eating or drinking it.
Digestion
This is the process of breaking down large food pieces into particles that are small enough to be absorbed and pass through cell membranes.
Absorption
The taking in of minerals from the food through the bloodstream to the cells.
Egestion
Undigested foods that are not absorbed is taken out through feces
Components of the digestive system:
The mouth and oesophagus Stomach Small intestine Large intestine (or colon) Rectum and Anus
enzymes
Special proteins that speed up the process of the chemical reactions in the body.
Physical Digestion
When food is physically chewed or mashed and goes through the digestion
Chemical Digestion
When food is exposed to the enzymes and is broken down and taken through the phase
Ulcers
Sores that develop inside the mouth, oesophagus, and stomach lining.
Diarrhea
The passing of undigested food through watery stools
Liver cirrhosis
Scars healthy tissue and turning it into an unfuntional Liver.
