Dimensions and Tolerance Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

What is a bilateral tolerance?

A

A tolerance where the part’s dimensions can be greater or less than the ideal value.

e. g. 2.5mm + 0.1
- 0.1

2
Q

What is a unilateral tolerance?

A

Same as bilateral, only we let it change in one dimension. Same format as bilateral, but one of the values are zero.

Q

What is CMM?

A

CMM is a coordinate measuring machine. There’s a touch trigger probe that moves around and feels for the object.

Q

What is cutoff length?

A

It’s a sampling technique for minimizing waviness accidentally being measured as roughness. A length is chosen so that the sampling frequency is the same as the waviness frequency, cancelling it out.
