Dimensions and Tolerance Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is a bilateral tolerance?
A tolerance where the part’s dimensions can be greater or less than the ideal value.
e. g. 2.5mm + 0.1
- 0.1
What is a unilateral tolerance?
Same as bilateral, only we let it change in one dimension. Same format as bilateral, but one of the values are zero.
What is a limit dimension?
When you specify just the min and max allowable value, and the machinist can do whatever he wants.
What is CMM?
CMM is a coordinate measuring machine. There’s a touch trigger probe that moves around and feels for the object.
What is surface roughness?
Surface roughness is an average of the vertical deviations from the nominal surface.
What is cutoff length?
It’s a sampling technique for minimizing waviness accidentally being measured as roughness. A length is chosen so that the sampling frequency is the same as the waviness frequency, cancelling it out.
What is Kaizen?
Continuous improvement in quality.
