What is Direct democracy
When the citizens themselves vote on the issues that need to be resolved
What is representative democracy
when people select a person to represent them for example an MP
Key Differences between direct and representative democracy
Direct = the citizens solve the issues themselves and they are not hold accountable where as
Representatives = MPs are held responsible and MPs are selected to represent people
Key features of political participation in a liberal a representative democracy 
- voting. choosing an MP who they think is is best to represent them
- writing to MP. can talk to the MP about their thoughts and issues personally
Examples of political participation
- signing a petition
- voting at election
- going on a demonstration
- writing to your MP
- joining a political party
- being active in a pressure group
