Sagittal
A plane of the body, Cuts a a person vertically down the midline
Frontal
Frontal Plane of the body. Separates anterior and posterior (front and back)
Transverse
A plane of the body that separates top from bottom (superior and inferior)
Anterior (Ventral)
Front side of the body (eyes, nose, mouth, belly button, abs)
Distal
Further away (reference to the midline)
Inferior
Away from the head, towards the foot.
Lateral
outside, (reference to the midline)
Medial
Midline (reference to the midline
Postal (Dorsal)
Back side of the body
Proximal
Closer to (reference to the midline)
Superior
Toward the head (away from the foot)
Abduction
Taking the limb away from the body
Adduction
Bringing the limb towards the body
Circumduction
Circular motions (shoulder or wrist)
Eversion
(Movement of an ankle) Twists towards or laterally, and an ankle twists outwards
Inversion
Ankle twists inwards (medially )
Supination
Palms up (lying face up)
Pronation
Palms down (lying face down)
Dorsiflexion
Foot/ankle (toes up)
Extension
Muscles lengthening (joints angle gets larger)
Flexion
(Muscle contracts) Fibers getting smaller and joints angles get smaller
Plantarflexion
Toes, foot, and ankle downwards
