Q

Why is the play relevant today?

A

The play makes the audience aware on sexual corruption and how the rich and powerful can destroy the lives of young women. This is relevant today such as Donald Trump, he jokes about assaulting women and being inappropriate to women

Q

Why are the characters based on those of the 70s?

A

Many characters believe that everything can be bought, they have no moral compass. They are all rather grotesque and that was heavily evident in the 70s

Q

How do the themes of the play link to the 70s?

A

We have discovered more recently that there was a lot happening behind closed doors in the 70s that was very dark indeed, which was a key theme both of the Jacobean period and play. The play has a brutal overarching theme of flamboyancy and the abuse of power which buffini associates with the 70s.

Q

What did the director want the audience to take away from the play?

A

She wanted the audience to enjoy themselves, it was the same in the Jacobean era as in many cases the audience would be stood so it can’t be boring.
Also she hoped it would encourage her audience to take a look at society around them and make some serious judgements.
She didn’t want the play to give answers she wanted it to ask questions.
