Q

Describe how metallic elements and non metallic elements form ionic bonds

A

When a metal and a non-metal come into contact, the metal atom loses electrons, becoming a positively charged ion. Simultaneously, the non-metal gains those electrons, forming a negatively charged ion. The resulting oppositely charged ions are attracted to each other due to electrostatic forces, forming an ionic bond.
