Communicable disease
An infectious diseases caused by pathogens such as bacteria.
Non communicable disease
A non infectious disease usually caused by a persons life style e.g alcohol consumption, dietary etc.
Give 3 examples of communicable diseases
Common cold, Flu (Influenza), Malaria, Corona-virus,meningitis.
Give 3 examples of non communicable diseases
Asthma, Coronary Heart disease, diabetes, Cancer.
Define a Pathogen
A disease causing microorganism.
Define bacteria
They are single celled living organisms with some having the ability to cause disease.
Describe the characteristics of a bacterium.
Prokaryotic and does not have organelles, some can cause disease while some are non pathogenic and are unable to. Bacteria are smaller than plant or animal cells.
