Q

What are the functions of muscular skeletal tissue?

A
  1. Produing movements - Movements of the whole body (walking, running), and localised movements (grasping a pencil, keyboarding, nodding head) rely on the integral functioning of skeletal muscles, bones, and joints.
  2. Stabilising body positions - Skeletal muscle contractions stabilize joints and help maintain body positions, such as standing or sitting.
  3. Storing & moving substances within the body - Skeletal muscle contractions promote the flow of lymph and aid the return of blood in veins to the heart.
  4. Generating heat (Thermogenesis) - Involuntary contractions of skeletal muscles, known as ‘shivering’, can increase the rate of heart production.
