Distanve Visual Acuity Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is the purpose of taking distance vision
to access how well the patient sees in the distance measured at 20ft
describe test you would do if the patient is unable to see the Big E
move closer to chart if possible and record 15/400 if this is the distance the E is seen at. Count fingers. HM. LP with or without projection depending on the results. No light perception with indirect
what test would you perform if the patient is unable to read letters or does not know their letters
’s, Illiterate E, HOTV, Allen Cards , always starting with the most accurate test , in the order they are listed above
what would you do to check distance vision if patient has nystagmus
additionally check vision at null point ( in head position where nystagmus is the least) and if latent nystagmus is present ( only comes out when eye is covered) don’t occlude eye but instead blur the other eye with PLUS lens ( such as +5.00D or +3.00D) to prevent nystagmus
what should you worn the patient not do to while checking their vision
no squinting no leaning forward
why is it important to push the vision to the smallest possible letters that can be seen even if they are blurry
so vision can be compared from one exam to another to see if it improving or decreasing. Really have them guess . How well can you guess
reason for performing this test
check dva every time patient comes in. diff between pathology and need for glasses change with pinhole to determine whether or not perform a refractometry or dialate eyes. discover amblyopia in a child. document best vision obtained with refractometry
