Q

how do you use a quadrat?

A
  1. Place a 1m quadrat on the ground at a random point with the first sample area
  2. Count all the organism within the quadrat
  3. Repeat step 1-2 as many times as possible and work out a mean (total # of organisms divided by the number of quadrats)
  4. Repeat this in a second sample area
  5. compare the two means

Q

how do you use transects?

A
  1. Mark out a line in the area you want to study using a tape measure
  2. Collect data along the line by counting the organisms along the line or using quadrats across the line
