What do proteins do
Form the structure of living organisms and are vital in the functioning of their cells
What are proteins made of?
Chains of units called amino acids
How are the amino acids linked?
What are fibrous proteins
The chains are folded into parallel strands and cross-linked for strength.
What are fibrous proteins used for
To make structural materials, such as collagen, important in skin and bone
What are globular proteins
The chains are folded into ball shapes that are held together with weak bonds giving a delicate structure
What are globular proteins for?
Form enzymes, membrane proteins, some hormones and antibodies
What is the DNA structure made of?
Two strands of nucleotides twisted into a spiral called a double helix

A phosphate, a deoxyribose sugar and a base
