When performing oral care, what order do you put in dentures?
Top and then bottom
How do you preform perineal care?
With a folded washcloth
wiping front to back and a different fold every time
holding cath out of the way if needed
What is a closed bed?
An unoccupied bed that is made up with linens.
What is an open bed?
A bed that is prepared and ready for a pt. Linens were folded down for the pt to get in.
What is a surgical bed?
A specialized piece of medical equipment used to support pt during procedures.
What is a myocardial infarction?
Heart attack
blockage in the heart that can cause lack of oxygen to body tissue and death
What is cardiovascular disease?
Heart disease or damage that includes vessels, structural problems, and blood clots.
What is congestive heart failure?
A chronic condition in which the heart doesn’t pump blood as well as it should.
What is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?
COPD
A group of lung diseases that block airflow and make it difficult to breathe. ex. Emphysema, Chronic bronchitis
What is a rebreather mask?
A breathing apparatus that allows a person to breathe more oxygen and have carbon dioxide removed.
What is a nasal cannula?
A medical device used to deliver supplemental oxygen through the nose.
What is a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube?
PEG tube
A feeding tube inserted through the abdominal wall into the stomach
What is a gastrostomy tube?
G tube
A feeding tube in inserted through the abdomen and into the stomach.
What is the difference between a PEG tube and a G tube?
A PEG tube is placed by an endoscope
A G tube is placed by sugery
What is a nasogastic tube?
NG tube
A thin flexible tube that is inserted through the nose and down to the stomach.
How often should a pt be turned?
Every 2 hours
Why do we perform range of motion?
to maintain and improve joint and muscle flexibility.
preventing contracture
How often should rounding be done?
Hourly
When performing rounding, what should you be looking for?
Change in signs/symptoms
- ex. loss of consciousness, shortness of breath, change in alertness/orientation
Vitals
- ex. pain, heart rate, BP, temp
Other factors
- ex. positioning, ADLs, fall risk, personal needs
