Drama
Preformed actors for an audience . Told through characters words and action.
Cast
The performers in a drama
Act
The main divisions of a drama
Scene
The smaller divisions within an act
Setting
The place and time where the action takes place. Mood or also known as the atmosphere
Dialogue
Lines spoken by the characters. What they say, how they say it, and how other people respond. Revealing aspects of a characters personality, clues to a characters education, background, or nationality.
Stage directions
The directions telling characters how to speak or act . The directions telling how sound, lighting, and props are used
Plot
Series of events where the characters try to solve a problem or attain a goal. Acts and scenes usually show a change in setting, in the characters, or in a plot.
Exposition
Introduces the characters,setting, and conflict.
Rising action
Includes the plot events that lead to the climax
Climax
The turning point in the plot events when the conflict is at its highest- point of no return
Falling action
Is the plot that leads to the resolution
Resolution
How the conflict is or is not resolved
Idiom
Common phrase that has different meaning than the meaning of its individual words.
Adage
Also known as proverb. Old sayings that expresses an accepted truth about life
Point of view- perspective
Characters point of view can explore the characters thoughts and feelings
Monologue
Central message the author wants to tell. Alluded to in the title and at the beginning of the play. Repeated phrases,details, or symbols may also help identify
Soliloquy
A speech in which a character reveals his or her thoughts and feelings to the audience but not to the other charecters
Aside
Is a comment made to the audience but not heard by the other characters
Dramatic irony
Created when the audience knows more than one or more of the characters do
Verbal irony
When a character says the opposite of what he or she really means - sarcasm or humour
Theme
Central message the author wants to tell. Alluded to in the title and at the beginning of the play. Repeated phrases,details, or symbols may also help identify the theme
