What is a proscenium stage + pros and cons
-An end on stage (normal stage) facing the audience on one side
Pros : good for naturalistic theatre, backdrops, projections and large scenery can be used, actors face the front.
Cons : Hard to see if sat at the back of the auditorium due to sight lines, props might not be seen.
What is a thrust stage + pros and cons?
Thrust stage is where the audience are from each side except behind the actors.
Pros : close to the audience which makes an intimate atmosphere, props and costumes can be detailed, can use backdrops etc.
Cons : Actor must change position frequently
What is a traverse stage + pros and cons?
The audience are either side of you kind of like an alleyway.
-Pros : acting area close to audience = intimate, props and costumes can be detailed.
Cons : actors have to move around frequently and audience might get distracting
Arena / in the round stage pros and cons
Arena stage is audience from every single angle (like an arena)
-Pros : actors feel more included, many entrance / exits for actors.
-Cons : problematic lighting and audience may be distracting.
