weekly, whenever used in service, used during training, or returned from maintenance
The following should be checked every day (3 broad)
- Fluid levels (fuel, water, foam, coolant, oil, def)
- Vehicle (pre trip checks)
- Equipment (keys, maps, radios, scba, medical, inventory, gas powered tools)
Weekly checks (each day)
Monday - cell phone and battery charge
Tuesday - extinguishers and equipment/tools/toolbox
Wednesday - EMS equipment and PPE
Thursday - Intercom, ps fluid level, transmission fluid, undercarriage/frame
Friday - canteens, hose loads, tiller bucket
First saturday checks
Engine - adapters/appliances, nozzles, 5” hose
Truck - electrical ops - emergency electrical mode, lube aerial, gas monitors
Second Saturday checks
Engine & Truck - frame, running gear, exhaust, suspension
Third Saturday checks
Engine & Truck - Ladders, pike poles, rescue equipment inventory truck
Types of leaks (3)
Class 1 - wet or discolored but no able to form drops
Class 2 - flow of fluid great enough to form drops but not enough to fall
Class 3 - flow of fluid great enough to form drops that fall from the leak
Out of service criteria:
Driving and crew area (6)
- cracked or broken windshield that obstructs drivers view
- missing or broken rearview mirrors that obstruct driver’s view
- missing or broken windshield wipers
- missing or broken door latches
- missing or broken foot throttle
- seat belts (drivers = rig out service, any other seat = seat out of service)
Out of service criteria:
Chassis, axles, steering and suspension, driveline, wheels, tires (12)
- GAWR on vehicle greater than tire manufacturers load rating
- Tires w/ cuts in sidewall that penetrate cord
- tires that do not maintain inflation
- tire tread
- suspension components loose, broke, or missing
- 1/4 of leaf springs broken or missing
- any top or second leaf spring cracked or broken
- wheels out of round, bolts damaged, fasteners damaged
- axles flanges w/ class 3 leak
- axle w/ class 3 leak
- steering component w/ class 3 leak
- steering wheel more than 10 degrees of play
Out of service criteria:
engine systems (6)
- engine wont start
- class 3 oil leak
- engine overheated
- oil with water, fue, or coolant in it
- class 2 fuel leak
- “stop engine” light
