A routine you need to carry out whenever you get into a car.
What is HDSSSM?
Handbrake (Make sure its secure), Doors, Seat ( Head rest/Distance from pedals), Steering wheel, Seat belt, Mirrors
What is the Dutch Reach?
How to safely exit a car using your furthest hand to open whilst supporting using your closer hand.
What is POM?
The Routine to move the car from a stationary position.
Prepare (The car), Observe (Clear all surroundings), Manoeuvre (Move Off)
What is MSPSL?
The routine when approaching junctions or turnings.
Mirror (Checking centre mirror and appropriate side mirror), Signal, Position, Speed, Look (Keep alert and observing)
What is LADA?
This routine is what you should do when approaching a hazard.
Look, Assess (What hazards are there), Decide, Act (What is the safest option)
What is SCALP?
This routine is used when parking your car.
Safe (Ensure that the space you’ve chosen is a safe space), Convenient, And Legal (Ensure where you’ve parked isn’t illegal), Position (Make sure that you are not over lines or abstructing other drivers)
