attitudes, skills, and behaviors to live in harmony
with oneself, with others, and with the natural
environment.
Peace Education
Learning to manage anger, “fight fair” and improve
communication through skills such as listening, turn-taking,
identifying needs, and separating facts from emotions,
constitute the main elements of these programs. Participants
are also encouraged to take responsibility for their actions
and to brainstorm together on compromises.
Conflict Resolution Training
mostly tries to
ignore or sidestep the conflict, hoping it will resolve itself or dissipate.
Avoiding
to resolve conflict
essentially involves taking steps to satisfy the other party’s concerns or
demands at the expense of your own needs or desires.
Accommodating
involves finding an
acceptable resolution that will partly, but not entirely, satisfy the concerns of
all parties involved
Compromising
tries to satisfy their own desires at the expense of the other
parties involved
Competing
involves finding a solution that entirely
satisfies the concerns of all involved parties
Collaborating
typically focus on the political processes associated with
conflict, and postulate that with an increase in democratic
participation the likelihood of societies resolving conflict
through violence and war decreases
Democracy Education
Education for justice teaches the next generation
about crime prevention, and to better understand and
address problems that can undermine the rule of law.
It promotes peace and encourages students to
actively engage in their communities and future
professions.
Justice Education
The aim is to engender a commitment among participants
to a vision of structural peace in which all individual
members of the human race can exercise their personal
freedoms and be legally protected from violence,
oppression and indignity
Human Rights Education
The ethical systems of the major world faith traditions,
humanitarian ethics and even primal and indigenous
spirituality have articulated principles that inspire the striving
for peace. These ethical principles include the unity and
value of life, not only of human life but also of other life forms
in nature; respect for human dignity; nonviolence; justice;
and love as a social ethic
Ethics
Holistic Concept of Peace: It is important that students understand
that peace is not just the absence of direct/physical violence but also
the presence of conditions of wellbeing, cooperation and just
relationships in the human and ecological spheres.
* Conflict and Violence: Conflicts are a natural part of person’s social
life, but they become problems of violence depending on the
methods of conflict resolution used.
* Students can study the problems of violence in various levels from
the personal to the global and including direct, structural, socio-cultural and ecological violence. They can also examine the roots
and consequences of violence
