What emergency situation is atropine used for?
Periarrest/unstable bradycardia
Organophosphate poisoning
What is the emergency dosing and route of administration of atropine for unstable bradycardia/peri-arrest?
500micrograms IV (0.5mg)
What is the next management for peri-arrest/bradycardia if atropine doesn’t work?
Transcutaneous pacing -> transvenous pacing if fails
What is the emergency dosing and route of administration of atropine for organophosphate poisoning?
1-2mg IV
What emergency is aspirin used to treat?
STEMI
NSTEMI
Unstable angina
Ischaemic stroke

What if they are not planned for PCI?
600mg oral for PCI
300mg oral for non PCI
What are the emergency uses for calcium gluconate?
Hyperkalaemia
Hypocalcaemia
What is the emergency dosing for calcium gluconate to manage severe Hyperkalaemia including route?
10ml 10% calcium gluconate IV over 5-10mins
What is the emergency management of symptomatic severe hypocalcaemia?
10-20ml of 10% calcium gluconate IV over 10-20mins
What is the emergency dosing of an insulin dextrose infusion used to treat hyperkalaemia?
Bolus (5mins) of 10units actrapid immediately followed by rapid bolus (2mins) of 50ml 50% dextrose
What are the emergency options for treatingng hypoglycaemia (including route)?
Oral glucose/dextrose tablet
IV glucose
IM glucagon
When is it appropriate to give a patient oral glucose/dextrose tablets to emergency manage hypoglycaemia?
Conscious with no issues swallowing
When is it appropriate to give a patient IV glucosee or IM glucagon?
When they are unconscious or unable to swalloww
When do you give IV glucose over IM glucagon for emergencyncy hypoglycaemia management?
IV if there is IV access, if theres no IV access IM glucagon is most appropriate
What are the emergency management options for treating hypoglycaemia?
Oral glucose/dextrose tablets
IM glucagon
IV glucose
When are oral glucose/dextrose tablets suitable to treat hypoglycaemia?
Patient is conscious and able to swallow
When is IM glucagon or IV glucose suitable for managing hypoglycaemia?
When the patient is unconscious or unable to swallow
When is IM glucagon used over IV glucose in managing hypooglycaemia?
IM glucagon = when no IV access
IV glucose in= when there IS IV access
How much oral glucose should a patient receive with hypoglycaemia?
Between 15g - 20g which is the equivalent to about 4-5 dextrose tablets
What is the dose of IM glucagon to treat hypoglycaemia when theres no IV access?
1mg
