DSM-5 Paraphilic disorders Flashcards
(14 cards)
Voyeuristic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from observing an unsuspecting person who is naked, in the process of disrobing, or engaging in sexual activity, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. Thought to be more common in males (3:1). Must be over 18 to qualify for a diagnosis.
Exhibitionistic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from the exposure of one’s genitals to an unsuspecting person, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. Believed to be more common in males than females. No minimum age for diagnosis
Frotteuristic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from touching or rubbing against a nonconsenting person, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. Believed to be more common in males than females. No minimum age for diagnosis.
Sexual Masochism Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from the act of being humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. No minimum age for diagnosis.
Sexual Sadism Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from the physical or psychological suffering of another (non-consenting) person, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. No minimum age for diagnosis
Paedophilic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviours involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children (generally age 13 years or younger). The individual must be at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the victim / focus of their urges.
Fetishistic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from either the use of non-living objects or a highly specific focus on nongenital body part(s), as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. The fetish objects must not be limited to articles of clothing used in cross-dressing (as in transvestic disorder) or devices specifically designed for the purpose of tactile genital stimulation (e.g., vibrator). No minimum age for diagnosis.
Transvestic Disorder
A period of at least 6 months of recurrent and intense sexual arousal from crossdressing, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours. This is not the same as gender dysphoria as those with purely transvestic disorder do not report an incongruence between their experienced gender and assigned gender. No minimum age for diagnosis.
Other Specified Paraphilic Disorder
Used for presentations of paraphilic disorder which do not fit into any other the above categories (e.g. zoophilia, scatologia (obscene phone calls), partialism (exclusive focus on one part of the body), acrotomophilia (people with amputations), necrophilia (corpses), coprophilia (faeces), klismaphilia (enemas))
Unspecified Paraphilic Disorder
Captures paraphilic behaviours where there is clinical distress but does not meet full criteria.
