E Grid 2 Flashcards
(39 cards)
What are the key elements for an electric circuit to function?
Source
Conductor
Load
What does an open circuit refer to as
Electrons are unable to flow through a conductor to provide power
What is a load?
A device that uses the electrical energy from a source to accomplish some useful purpose
What is a short circuit?
A circuit that does not have a load or in which the load has been bypassed
What is a fuse and what does it do?
A fuse is an intentionally weakened point in a circuit that burns open when current flow is excessive
How are fuses connected?
In series with a load so the circuit will open if the current ratting is exceeded
What are the three parts that make up a fuse?
Stranded cable
Steel support wire
Fusible element
What does a short circuit have
A very low resistance
What is a fused designed to do?
Melt at lower amperage
How many types of circuits are ther and what are they?
Series
Parallel
All circuits are what?
Series
Parallel or a combination of the two
What is a series circuit?
Only one path of current flow.
Where are series circuits most commonly seen?
Lighting applications
What are series circuits considered?
Impractical
What type of circuits are all power lines?
Combination circuit type
What is a parallel circuit?
Circuit that has multiple current paths to flow through
What does the term in series mean?
Anything connected directly across two points of different potential is said to be in series
Anything connected in series has what?
Current flow through it unless the resistance is sufficient to prevent it
A worker should never do what when doing hot work?
Place himself in series
What type of equipment is connected in series with the line?
Regulators
Reclosers
Sectionalizers
And switches
What happens to the current flow when a device is connected further down the line
The current will pass through the device witch cause an increase of current flow through them
If a certain amount of current flow is required for the circuit what must the voltage be?
The voltage must be high enough to maintain the proper current flow
In a series circuit is the current high lower or is it the same through the whole circuit
The current is the same at any given point
What must a transformer do to to maintain the amperage
Supply enough voltage
