E&S Regents Flashcards
Study terms you absolutely need to know (56 cards)
Direct Relationship
independent variable increases, dependent variable increases.
Indirect Relationship
independent variable increases, dependent variable decreases.
Constant Relationship
One variable increases, other variable stays the same
Cyclic Relationship
One variable increases, other variable increases/decreases in repeated pattern.
Density
d= mass/volume
(Pressure/temp don’t affect density)
When increasing pressure…
Density increases.
When increasing temperature…
Density decreases.
SIze and shape…
Don’t affect density.
Big Bang Theory
Universe began from a dense dot with all matter before exploding outward.
Evidence of Big Bang
- Cosmic Background Radiation
- Red shift (away) & Blue Shift (towards).
Beginning of Universe
13.8 bya (billion years ago).
Gravity
Holds universe together.
Universe
it’s made of billions of galaxies.
Galaxies
Made of billions of stars/solar systems.
Nuclear Fusion
Lighter to heavier elements (stars use this).
Main Sequence
90% of Stars’ life span.
Star Life Cycle
Determined by it’s mass.
HR Diagram
Classifies stars based off color, temp, luminosity, and mass.
Luminosity
A star’s brightness.
Massive stars =
High luminosity.
Star’s temp determines…
Color. (Blue = Hottest)
(Red = Coolest)
Sirius B & Procyon
“White Dwarf Stars”
The Sun
Main Sequence Star,
Luminosity is 1.
Nucleosynthesis
It’s just another name for nuclear fusion.
(Lighter to Heavier elements)
