Summary of King William’s War
A
- Began 1689
- Britain joined a European coalition to stop French aggression in wanting to expand it’s territory in Europe and so Britain then used the conflict in Europe as an opportunity to try and expand their territory in North America
- Britain allied with the Iroquois confederacy, but failed to effectively support their Iroquois allies
- No territory was gained or lost for either side in North America

Summary of Queen Anne’s War
A
- began 1702
- another European conflict - used as an excuse to again pressure one-another’s North American territory
- Iroquois remained neutral this time
- British successfully captured the capital of Acadia (Port Royall) = gained control of the Acadian peninsula (rich fishing grounds etc.)
- War ended with Treaty of Utrecht 1713, in which France gave Britain Nova Scotia, Hudson’s Bay and Newfoundland - however there was a lack of clarity regarding precisely where the border of Acadia lay
- France maintained control of the Gulf of St Lawrence and built a fort at Louisburg to protect the shipping route
- More than 500 British settlers killed/captured
